From FTEs To Results: Going Beyond Labor Arbitrage To Managed Outcome Relationships
by Bill Martorelli and Stephanie Moore
April
2008 - full version
Companies have spent years expanding their use of applications development and maintenance services based on a time and materials (T&M) model. Today, many service buyers feel they have maxed out their gains from this approach, and from the labor arbitrage obtained via offshore providers. Clients may face diminishing returns due to increased provider costs, decreased productivity, or both. To achieve the next threshold of value, apps services buyers need to transform sta. augmentation relationships into relationships based on outcomes defined in terms of price, deliverables, and service levels, what Forrester calls managed outcome relationships. Clients instead should aim to take advantage of their suppliers’ technical prowess, processes, and tools to save money and achieve other, potentially more valuable benefits. The transition from T&M to an outcome-based model goes beyond a normal stage in application outsourcing and is fraught with challenges. This document lays out an approach for sourcing teams to capture these benefits while minimizing risk.
How To Benefit From The New Offshore Reality
Sourcing Professionals Can Change Contracts To Get More From Indian Providers
by Sudin Apte with Christine Ferrusi Ross and Allison Thresher
January
2008 - full version
India’s advantage as an offshore location is fast eroding — its attractiveness takes a hit with each passing day. Apart from the fallout of known challenges like staffing costs, attrition, and infrastructure, a host of new issues — the falling dollar, unrealistic sta. expectations and aspirations, project scalability, expected tax revisions, and real estate costs — are threatening the offshore story of low-cost and high-quality resources. But while many clients are disillusioned with the state of affairs in India, the lack of a scalable offshore alternative is keeping the Indian offshore business going, and even growing. To meet the challenges of this new dynamic, sourcing professionals need to reset expectations and make their internal buyers aware of related risks.
Softtek Is A Strong Performer In SAP Implementation Services
The Forrester Wave™ Vendor Summary, Q4 2007
by Stephanie Moore

December
2007 - full version
Softtek’s entry into the SAP market 13 years ago came naturally through its servicing of Latin American aviation, oil and gas, and pharmaceutical clients. Today, Softtek is SAP’s largest Latin American SAP services partner, with 20% of its revenues coming from SAP services. Although Softtek is admittedly more focused on the technical implementation portions of an SAP engagement, all of its survey references used Softtek for the higher value pre-implementation consulting portions of their SAP engagement in addition to the technical work. All client references were highly positive about the experience. Clearly, Softtek is making great headway towards the higher value consulting space.

“Global Outsourcing Perspectives – Mexico Starts its Offshore Services Engines”.
by Stephanie Moore
with Christine Ferrusi Ross and Allison Thresher. Forrester Research.
January 2007 - full version
Every company with a formal offshore program management office is considering diversification. Some are worried about the attrition and rising wages in India, while others are simply looking to mitigate risk by adding new locations. Mexico represents an excellent nearshore alternative for US companies that are looking for diversification or that can’t or don’t want to use an offshore vendor. While the Mexican software and services export market is not as mature or as large as the Indian market, there are significant benefits that can be gained by using an IT services firm in Mexico, especially as the industry there continues to mature.
